Did you know that Bathroom remodelling your is one of the UK's favourite pastimes? It’s true – We spend millions each and every year on remodelling our bathrooms. Even if you don't have a big budget, investing in small changes, like some new lighting, simple repainting, new accessories and changing the flooring can really make a big difference.

It's common knowledge that bathroom remodelling will probably provide the best return on your home improvement investment - your bathroom will need less repairs, last longer and will give more décor style than just about any other room in the house.

Do-It-Yourself or Contractor?

When you decide to invest in bathroom remodelling, do you DIY or call in a professional bathroom contractor. The DIY route will be cheaper but you really need to think about the pros and cons of hiring a contractor versus conducting a large remodelling project on your own.

DIY Bathroom Remodelling

A proficient DIY'r can probably accomplish any of the following tasks without the help of a Bathroom Contractor:

  • replacing a sink, toilet or bath using existing plumbing
  • installing new light fixtures / changing existing lighting
  • installing mirrors
  • installing shelves
  • painting bathroom walls
  • replacing floor coverings and tiles

    Contractor Remodelling
Some projects may require expert skills and specific knowledge of building and plumbing codes. Consider a contractor if your remodelling schemes include:

  • adding or removing bathroom walls
  • adding heating systems
  • moving a bath, shower or sink where new plumbing is required
  • installing new ventilating system that runs through the roof

    Remodelling Tips

    Quality Counts
Remember to carefully check out the quality of all the new bathroom fixtures and fittings that you’re considering using in your new bathroom – the range of guarantees varies wildly from 12 months to 25 years, so choose wisely.
Bathrooms are also becoming a 'fashion statement' and may look dated more quickly than you imagined, so paying for very high quality fittings will be pointless if you change them quickly. Remember, you use your bathroom every day so make sure your bathroom remodelling results are what YOU need and not what fashion dictates.

    Prioritize
Finally, prioritize. Make sure your bathroom remodelling happens in the correct order. For example, don’t paint your bathroom walls if you think you may do a bathroom floor replacement!
