Wash Basins - Bathroom Furniture

Wash Basins are also very often called bathroom sinks, they are used for washing the hands, face and other parts of the body. Wash basins are most commonly made from vitreous china, but they are also made from glass, metal, stone resin, stone and even wood! There are many wash basins available which will help you to create your personal sanctuary.

Some of the wash basins available can be wall mounted, semi-recessed or inset into a countertop. The wash basin you will be most familiar with is the standard wall mounted basin which is installed with a pedestal which helps to support the basin and cover pipe work. Standard pedestals go straight down to the floor and semi pedestals or half pedestals as they are also known cover the pipe work but like the basins are also mounted to the wall. The type of pedestal you choose depends on the pipe work in your bathroom.

Basins are very often supplied with taps hole, it is up to you how many you require, and this is really determined by the style of tap you want to fit. One tap hole is ideal if you want a monobloc/mixer tap, two tap holes if you want to fit a hot and a cold tap and then three tap holes which is for traditional style tap which has one spout and a hot and a cold control. Some wash basins are supplied with no tap holes; this is for where the tap is wall or deck mounted.

If your bathroom is on the small side, you might want to consider installing a short projection basin which will not protrude as much and help to maximize space. For cloakrooms, shower rooms and en-suites you could install a hand-ride basin or even a corner basin which will help save space.
